Lindsey's Cooking Lesson

Quiz

“Lindsey," called Mum from the kitchen. “It's time to make dinner, are you ready?"
“Yes, I am!" answered Lindsey as she came down the stairs.
Entering the kitchen, Lindsey grabbed the new apron her grandmother had given her for her birthday.
“What are we making?" she asked her mum.
“Lasagna, salad, and garlic bread," said Mum.

“That's my favourite!" Lindsey exclaimed.
“I know," said Mum. “I thought it would add to the fun of your first time helping to make dinner."
“Oh, it will!" said Lindsey. “What do we do first?"
“Since you will be handling food, the first thing you need to do is wash your hands," said Mum.
“O.K," said Lindsey walking to the sink and reaching for the soap. When she finished she said, “All ready, what's next?"
“We need to gather the ingredients. First we'll brown the hamburger in a large pot. Why don't you get the package of hamburger out of the fridge, and I'll grab the pot," said Mum.
Lindsey got the hamburger and brought the package to her mom.
“When handling raw meat, we need to observe a few rules," said Mum. “After opening the package, we need to clean up any drips that fall on the counter, and wash our hands with an antibacterial soap," Mom continued, dropping the raw meat into the pan and disposing of the packaging.
“Why do I need to wash my hands again?" asked Lindsey.
“Raw meat can contain bacteria called e-coli which can cause a terrible infection if it gets inside your body. Washing with an antibacterial soap helps to kill this bacteria on your hands. Also wiping up the counter removes the chance that other foods will come in contact with the bacteria," explained Mum.
“Wow, I didn't know that," said Lindsey washing her hands thoroughly.
